l ACIDIC — A solution that has a pH less than 7. Acidic solutions in the sanitation industry are used to remove organic soils such as mineral and scale deposits and returning shine or luster to stainless steel surfaces.
l ALKALINE — A solution that has a pH greater than 7. Alkaline solutions in the sanitation industry are used to remove soils such as fats, greases and proteins.
l CHLORINATED — Chemicals that contain sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl). This compound is contained in sanitation chemicals to remove protein soils.
l CAUSTIC — Caustics typically refer to cleaning chemicals that contain sodium hydroxide. These chemicals have a very high pH and are used for heavy-duty cleaning applications such as CIP, smokehouses, etc.
l QUATERNARY — Refers to a particular type of sanitizer containing ammonium chloride. Quat sanitizers are self-foaming and provide a bacteriostatic residual film which provides microbial defense for a period of time after it has been applied to an equipment surface.
l MILD — Refers to products that are a neutral pH chemical.
